In Petén, we are promoting actions aimed at rural development and improving food security in the communities of Canchacán and Sabaneta Tanjoc through initiatives that promote food production in homes and strengthen the family economy

In Canchacán, 10 mothers have received free-range chickens. This initiative not only includes raising poultry for family consumption and generating income in the medium and long term, but also involves implementing backyard gardens in these homes. In this way, families can diversify their diets and have their own resources to improve their nutrition.

Similarly, in the community of Sabaneta Tanjoc, heirloom seeds have been distributed to another 10 mothers. These seeds are a key resource for local agriculture due to their adaptation to the climate and soil conditions. These varieties not only promote more sustainable production but also contribute to the conservation of agricultural biodiversity and the preservation of traditional practices.

In addition, in both communities, participants have received basic technical guidance on the management of the resources provided, including recommendations for the care of birds, as well as for planting and maintaining crops.
